On Monday my daughter, niece and nephew took part in the Hildenborough Races 2014.
All three of them did the 1 mile race for under 11’s, which my nephew won and the girls both came in the top twenty out of 170 children overall.
Immediately following the presentation of the winners medals for this race, my nephew went on to compete in the 2.5 mile race for 11 years and over and came third in that one too! What a fantastic achievement, considering he is only 11 and had already competed in one race.
My nephew, no.35, keeping a steady lead throughout the race.
His sister, no.36, not too far behind and holding her own amongst the girls.
My daughter, no.117, keeping up a steady pace with the front group.
My niece and nephew train regularly and my daughter runs for her school. She also came 15th in the District Cross Country race that was held last week. They are all turning out to be quite the athletes and at ten and eleven years old, becoming a lot more serious and competitive about their sports.
We were all so proud of the three of them, particularly the fantastic achievements of my nephew. And to top it all off he had his picture taken with Dame Kelly Holmes, who lives in the village where the races were held and so just ‘popped’ along to support the children! What an honour.
Well done to them all! Sounds like your nephew could be an athletics star in the making 🙂
Yes I think you may be right.
Wow I think I would have been speechless if I met D Kelly Holmes 🙂 Well done to them, the focus on their faces shows a lot of determination.
I believe she is a regular at these types of events are people are used to seeing her around now!
