January is as busy for us as December and I’m so glad that it’s over. I don’t normally wish time away like that, but I feel that we all need a bit of a break now.
What was I thinking taking on the 100K in 100 Days challenge?
Somewhere along the way, I’ve lost count of the number of words I’ve written, so I’m not sure at all where I am on this challenge. All I know is this:
- I published 9 blog posts
- I wrote 15,000 words of my novel
- I completed a project that involved writing the content for a new website
- I compiled 2 articles for a client
- Plus, I’ve been working two days a week on a big website update project that involves lots of writing, but in little bits here and there.
At least I have been writing every day – that I do know. On the reading front, I’ve been so tired, that I haven’t had much energy for it. That means that I am still working my way through Game of Thrones, book 4 (it is good though – just hard going at the end of a long day).
Aside from work and writing, this month we’ve had one child performing in a pantomime, another in a concert and the third in a Taekwondo grading, plus the girls had their birthdays. I don’t remember at which point the lives of our three children overtook ours. Suffice to say, I have no life, but I spend my time running around organising other people.
This month has been great fun, but it’s been full to bursting with cake making, parties, late nights, rattiness and in the end, everyone getting a bit run down and ill.
Our month is pictures:
Will February be a more successful month of writing? Well it’s shorter and we have half term so who knows? I started a writing group on Thursday and although this week we mostly concentrated on introductions and getting to know one another, I did volunteer to hand over some of my work for everyone to critique. Scary stuff – next time we meet, I will get feedback on it, so I’m looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time.
I hope to get more of my novel re-draft done and I’m really enjoying writing short pieces of fiction just for fun, using Sarah’s prompt each week. It’s something different from my everyday work.
Oh and I will get that book finished….
What at are your writings plans for February?
I’m sharing this for #whatimwriting.
Wow, firstly I’m not surprised you’re too tired to read GoT at night (I’m on book 6!) and that you’ve lost count of how many words you’ve written. It’s great you’ve still managed to write a lot though. Fab pics and love the rainbow cake. Looks delicious.
How many of them are there?! I am hoping to read this before the next series starts. That rainbow cake was amazing. I didn’t make it! I did them a cake each on their actual day and then cheated when it came to the parties.
Love the photos! The cakes, little girls in tutus… so cute! It seems like you’re doing really well with your writing!! It’s difficult to manage writing and family activities but it looks like you’re able to get a lot done in both areas…
It was a real mix of stuff going on. I dont know we did it but we ended up with one birthday on christmas day, one on Jan 22nd and the other on Jan 27th. Crazy!
Wow Nikki you have had a busy January! I know exactly what you mean by not wanting to wish away time but also having the feeling of just having to get through a tough month. Hope that February is a bit easier.
I was feeling bad the other day for not writing anything for my novel and getting out of the writing habit. Then realised I’ve most definitely been writing every single day for the blog (including two paid posts in Jan) so actually I’m not doing too badly at all 🙂
PS. Doing all that AND finding time to read blows my mind, I’m falling asleep two pages into my book at the mo!
You forget that blogging IS writing, but i get the novel-neglecting guilt too. I am hoping to get some done today but i have BT here fixing the broadband so i can’t get on the computer!
Totally! Hope it’s fixed soon so you can write 🙂
Oh yes, my daughter has a much better social life than me- and I assume it will continue in this way for many years to come too! Sounds like an incredibly busy month.
It’s not as though they all do loads of stuff, but collectively it adds up. You can’t say yes to one and then no to the others. I have been told it only grts worse!
Wow, what a busy month! Love the photos – lots of cuteness there. Thankfully my boys’ birthdays are spread out a bit (June, Aug and Feb) you must get exhausted with three birthdays, christmas and a wedding anniversary all in the space of a few weeks! Well done with getting all that writing done too – sounds like you’ve been productive. Hope you have a more laid-back Feb. Thanks for linking to #WhatImwriting
It’s a bit much if I’m honest and I always have to start organising the girl’s birthdays before Christmas so that I can get it booked in time and get the invited out when they go back to school. My eldest will be wanting to do her own thing from next year I guess (she’ll be going to secondary school). Big changes ahead, but no doubt Nicola Young’s taxi will be kept even busier!
Sounds like a busy month, let’s hope things settle in February. Good luck with the group, I’m sure it will go well. I’m trying to get as much writing done as I can before half term, that’s always my sticking point. Xx
It’s a short month as well, but I’m having half term off, going to see my mum and spending a couple of days with my husband (just the two of us). I will have to do power sprints to keep up with the writing!
Well done with fitting in your writing around all that! Life gets very busy with three children all doing different activities and pursuing their interests. Lovely pictures and I do like the look of that cake.
It is pretty amazing, though it colours your tongue!
Impressed that you fit in so much. Not surprised that you lose count multi-tasking like that. I try to stick to one thing per day – but then I’m a guy. 🙂
It would be lovely to spend all my time on the novel, but that doesn’t pay the bills. Such is life.
This juggling act is just so hard to keep up isn’t it? Though reading your post makes me wonder what I’m complaining about! I hope February brings you a bit more space to work on your writing, but seriously well done for managing as much as you have… X
I wish i didn’t have to put the novel on the back burner all the time though. These things don’t write themselves!
Busy month. I reckon you probably hit your target with all of that writing and your worky bits.
I fell behind as well. It’s harder than it looks!
