In honour of the forthcoming launch of the next book in the Time School series, I would like to invite Year 6 students to join me for a special online event.
This dedicated event aims to bring the amazing Year 6 students together – virtually – in the classroom or in their homes – to celebrate the launch of Time School: We Will Honour Them. As a mother of a Year 6 child myself, I know these fabulous children have seen the last few months of their Primary School lives upended by the coronavirus and I wanted to acknowledge that.
So, on the afternoon of the 17th July (2 p.m.) I will host a reading, talk about the Time School series (which launched on World Book Day just before the pandemic hit the UK), encourage the children to join in with some activities, and discuss the importance of historical fiction for children.
The Time School books are set in the early years of Secondary School and one 11-year old reviewer said of the first book (Time School: We Will Remember Them):
“It got me excited about moving to a different school and I learned a lot about life in England at the end of World War One.”
I will also reveal a competition, open to all year six children embarking on the exciting journey to secondary school, which will close at the end of the summer holidays.
It’s a strange and unusual time for all of us, and even for those back in school, it’s not quite the same – certainly not what they were expecting for their last few months at Primary School! I’m hoping this event will be something fun to look forward to. It will also offer the chance for boys and girls to ‘meet’ an author, something that’s not been possible due to the school closures, and with any luck, be inspired to read, write and illustrate stories in the future.
Whether you’ll be in school, homeschool or at home chilling for the afternoon, we would love you to join us… and tell your friends!
All those who RSVP will be sent a Zoom invite nearer to the event and will be invited to buy copies of Time School 1 and 2 before the event if they wish, using a special discount code. You’ll also be invited to send in your questions in advance so you can get a shout-out and your question answered by me!
Please go to the eventbrite page to book, so you can be sent that all-important Zoom link.
