Helping to #SaveSyriasChildren

by | Sep 5, 2015

Being a blogger brings with it the unique opportunity to be a voice, a messenger. If there was ever a time when using that position to spread an important message, it’s right now.

I’m writing this post in order to spread the word about the plight of the children and their families fleeing from Syria. You would have been hard pushed not to have seen the photos in the news and on social media. As a parent, it’s hard not to be affected by these images and when I heard about this campaign, organised by a group of bloggers who were touched by recent events, particularly young boy, Alan Kurdi’s death, I wanted to help. The aim of the campaign is to encourage as many people as possible to donate to Save the Children’s Syria Appeal.

The message is simple: it could have been us and these hashtags say it all #savesyriaschildren ‪#‎syria‬ ‪#‎help‬ ‪#‎crisis‬ ‪#‎war‬ ‪#‎children‬ ‪#‎hope‬ ‪#‎love‬ ‪#‎peace‬ ‪#‎refugeeswelcome‬ ‪#‎Refugees‬ ‪#‎charity‬ ‪#‎nochildborntodie.

I’ve been reading up on this crisis ever since seeing that heartbreaking picture last Thursday. Thank you for posting on it and hope it helps. I have trying to figure out the best place to donate over here in Canada – I’ve been looking for something in my city as other Canadian cities and some universities are coordinating efforts for things like raising funds for private sponsorship. I may find one of those groups to help support.

It’s so heartbreaking, and it really feels like something the rest of the world should have been focussed on sooner.

I’m not sure how much it would help, but it felt right to pull together with the blogging community to do this.
